Alexis and Chester // Wedding

The real act of marriage takes place in the heart, not in the ballroom or church or synagogue. It's a choice you make - not just on your wedding day, but over and over again - and that choice is reflected in the way you treat your husband or wife. -Barbara De Angelis

Alexis and Chester got married in the middle of downtown Cincinnati. They had a wedding full of adventure, passion, dedication and history. They incorporated their life into their wedding, they made it more than an event but rather told a story. It told their story. And it was a beautiful story at that.

I don't often pick a favorite moment from a wedding but this one was so special I just have to share it. During Alexis and Chester's Ceremony they participated in the jumping of the broom. If you are like me you don't have any idea what I am talking about. Well, this ceremony dates back to the 1600s and derives from Africa. Dating back to slave days, jumping the broom together has been part of weddings for couples who want to honor that tradition. The jumping of the broom is symbolic of binding a couple in marriage. The "Jumping the Broom" is a ceremony in which the bride and groom, either at the ceremony or at the reception, signify their entrance into a new life and their creation of a new family by symbolically "sweeping away" their former single lives, former problems and concerns, and jumping over the broom to enter upon a new adventure as wife and husband.

Congratulation Alexis and Chester, I wish you happiness and an abundance of joy in your life together.
